Rivals Meet with Postseason Implications on the Line

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off disappointing weekends, both Kentucky and Indiana are seeking an important victory on Tuesday night in Bloomington, as both remain in the mix to earn one of the NCAA Tournament’s top 16 national seeds and thus host a regional in the postseason. The rivals met twice last season, with UK winning both the regular season matchup and tournament elimination game. Both of those games were in Lexington.
 
  The No. 17 Cats took one of three games at Tennessee over the weekend, getting bitten by a late home run in Sunday’s series finale. No. 19 Indiana traveled to Minnesota and was swept, including an extra-inning loss on Sunday. Both clubs know the importance of their meeting, as either one could be sent to the other’s home field for an NCAA Regional.
 
  Kole Cottam and Luke Heyer continue to mash baseballs for the Cats with a combined 32 home runs (each have 16). The total is the sixth-highest in a season for UK’s top two home run hitters. They have combined for 86 runs, 20 doubles, 32 home runs, 94 RBI and 11 stolen bases this season. They’ll have their work cut out for them vs. the Hoosiers, whose team ERA is an excellent 2.69.
 
  First pitch is set for 6 p.m. with the Big Ten Network airing the game. Darren Headrick will have the radio call for the Cats on 630 AM WLAP.
