PLAYER NOTES
PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
Junior RHP Justin Lewis…
- Needing a win to avoid a sweep at home that would have left the Cats fighting out of a hole the rest of the way, Lewis turned in the best performance of his career against the No. 1 team in the nation.
- The righty went 8.0 innings, gave up just one hit, one unearned run and struck out 11.
- The hit came by the first hitter of the game and Lewis then did not allow a hit to the final 28 batters he faced in the game.
- The 11 strikeouts tied a career-high.
- His 119 pitches were a career-high.
- UK now is 5-0 in Lewis’ last five starts, with the junior getting the win in four of those and holding No. 18 Georgia scoreless through 6.0 innings in the Cats’ 1-0 win in the other.
- In each of those five starts the Cats have needed a win in the final game of its weekend SEC series to either win the series or avoid a sweep, which Lewis has made possible.
- In those five starts Lewis is 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 31.2 innings, allowing just 17 hits.
