Wildcats in the Pros -- Sept. 20

Week 2 in the NFL was packed with notable games for former Wildcats now in the NFL.

Former Wildcat tight end Jacob Tamme had an impressive outing for the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, catching five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Tamme helped the Falcons to a 35-28 win over the Oakland Raiders in Sunday’s game. 

Randall Cobb, another former Wildcat, continues to impress at the next level. The Green Bay Packers wide receiver had four receptions for 28 yards as the Packers lost to the Minnesota Vikings 17-14 on Sunday night.

Former Kentucky defensive lineman Za’Darius Smith had a pair of tackles, including one tackle for a loss, for the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. After falling behind early, Smith and the Ravens rallied to beat the Cleveland Browns 25-20.

Ryder Cup captain’s pick and former Wildcat J.B. Holmes is set to play in the TOUR Championship September 22.

The season-ending tournament is held at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia. Only the top 30 players on the FedEx Cup points list play in the TOUR Championship and Holmes is 28th on this year’s list, making him eligible to play in this exclusive event for the second year in a row.

Last year, Holmes tied for eighth place in the TOUR Championship with a total score of 277, only six shots off the eventual winner, Jordan Spieth.

The Campbellsville, Kentucky, native is currently ranked 21st in the official world golf ranking and has 10 Top 25 finishes during the 2016 season.

Former Kentucky baseball standout Alex Meyer reached a lifelong goal on Sunday when he notched his first career victory in the major leagues.

Pitching for the Los Angeles Angels, Meyer went five innings on Sunday, allowing the Toronto Blue Jays just two hits. Meyer struck out seven in the game.

The 6-9 Meyer was recently traded from the Minnesota Twins organization to the Angels, who promoted him to the majors shortly thereafter.
