“Last night, I sat down with my parents and discussedeverything,” Smith said. “The last couple of days, it came to mestrongly that I wanted to concentrate on football the rest of the year.
“I want to make sure I become a better football player. Ireally want that tight end spot and it is important to work in theweight room and on my speed and agility. Watching (All-America tightend James) Whalen this season, I saw what it takes to be successful. When I was out there (playing), I didn’t feel like I had what he had. Smith also talked about his future in athletics and how thatplayed a role in his decision.
“If I have a future in any sport, it’s football,” he said. “Iwant to take advantage of that. I want to do everything I can tofulfill my dream of playing on the professional level.”
