More National Honors for Couch: Kentucky junior quarterback Tim Couch has been named first-team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and has been chosen SEC Player of the Year and second-team All-America by Football News. During the 1998 regular season, Couch completed 400 of 553 passes (72.3 percent) for 4,275 yards and 36 touchdowns. Couch owns four NCAA records, 14 Southeastern Conference records, and 26 school records. Couch led the Wildcats to a 7-4 record, the team’s best mark since 1984.
Couch is Kentucky’s first first-team All-American since offensive tackle Mike Pfeifer in 1989. Couch is the first Wildcat chosen by the Walter Camp Football Foundation since defensive end Art Still in 1977. The Walter Camp All-America team is the nation’s longest-running All-America team, having been in existence since 1889.
Couch already has been chosen first-team All-America by the Football Writers Association of America. He is also a candidate for several other national awards, including, the Heisman Memorial Trophy and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
Yeast Named Third-Team All-America: Kentucky senior wide receiver Craig Yeast has been chosen third-team All-America by Football News magazine. Yeast caught 85 passes for 1,311 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks seventh nationally in receptions. He rates second in the league and sixth nationally in receiving yardage. Yeast broke the SEC career record for receptions (208) and ranks second in SEC history in receiving yardage (2,899) and fifth in touchdown receptions (28).
Yeast holds two SEC receiving records and 19 school marks for receiving, kick returns, and all-purpose yardage.
This Week’s Schedule: The Wildcats will practice on the following dates: Dec. 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10. The team will practice from 2 to 3 p.m. Many of the younger players will continue to practice from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
