BIO

Trey Odom joined the Kentucky football staff in 2026 as the assistant safeties coach, working primarily with Josh Christian Young.

Prior to Kentucky, Odom spent the 2025 season at Oklahoma Baptist University as the safeties coach and video coordinator. Under his guidance, sophomore safety Jojo Wash earned Great American Conference Third Team All-Conference honors. Freshman safety Maddux Boyd also emerged as one of the league’s top newcomers, leading all GAC freshmen in tackles and ranking third nationally among freshmen with 60 total stops.

Beginning in February of 2024, Odom served as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M, working primarily with the defensive backs while also being heavily involved in day-to-day scout card and advanced scouting operations. He was part of a staff that signed three top-25 nationally ranked cornerbacks in the 2025 recruiting class.

Under Odom’s tutelage, cornerback Will Lee ranked fifth in the SEC with 10 pass breakups and was top-five on the team in 2024 with 42 total tackles, earning Second Team All-SEC honors.

Prior to his time in College Station, Odom participated in the 2024 rookie minicamp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as part of the organization’s National Coaching Academy, where he was selected as one of 25 finalists nationwide.

Odom began his collegiate coaching career at Rice, joining the staff as a recruiting analyst in 2019 before moving into a graduate assistant role working with running backs from 2020–22. He was promoted to an analyst position in the spring of 2023. During his tenure, he helped the Owls reach back-to-back bowl games, the LendingTree Bowl (2022) and First Responder Bowl (2023), marking the program’s first postseason appearances since 2014.

While at Rice, running back Dean Connors thrived under Odom’s instruction, totaling 1,679 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, along with 912 receiving yards and six scores. Connors earned Phil Steele All-AAC Third Team honors in 2023, was a fourth-team selection in 2024 and added All-AAC honorable mention recognition from the league’s coaches in 2024.

Before entering the coaching ranks, Odom played cornerback at Missouri Southern State in 2017, then transferred to Houston to begin his coaching career as a student coach with the Cougars in 2018. Working with safeties under Coach Lamar Morgan, he helped the Cougars earn a berth in the Armed Forces Bowl.

A native of Lufkin, Texas, Odom was raised in Katy, Texas, where he played defensive back at Katy High School from 2013–17. He earned First Team All-District honors at cornerback in 2016 under head coach Gary Joseph and was a member of the Tigers’ 2015 state championship team, which finished the season ranked No. 1 nationally.

Odom earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Houston in 2021 and completed his master’s degree from Rice in 2023
