Wildcats Conclude LSU Invitational in 11th
BATON ROUGE, La. – Graduate student Reid Bedell and sophomore Alex Goff earned top-25 finishes and the Kentucky men’s golf team wrapped up competition at the LSU Invitational in 11th overall.
“What a test of golf the University Club at LSU is,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “We had flashes of tremendous golf and we also had some unforced disasters this week. But overall, I’m pleased with our effort especially considering it is only February. I already can’t wait to get to the Schenkel and compete again.”
Bedell had rounds of 73-77-73 and tied for 24th overall with a 7-over par scorecard. His round of 73 paced the Wildcats on the final day of play. The Fair Haven, New Jersey, native notched a team-best four birdies on the day and played 1-under over his final nine holes.
Goff matched Bedell’s finish with a tie for 24th after logging 76-71-76 rounds for the week. Goff has finished third or better among UK’s starting lineup in three of four tournaments this season. He also has a team-high six rounds of par or lower after his second round 1-under.
No. 6 Illinois edged No. 19 Vanderbilt by two shots for the team crown. Illinois finished the week at 12-over par. Vanderbilt shot 14-over and South Carolina’s 17-over scorecard was good enough for third. UK shot a combined 36-over and finished in 11th.
The Wildcats return to action March 19-21 at the Schenkel Invitational. It will mark the 15th consecutive appearance for UK in the event.
Graduate student Jacob Cook tied for 49th following a 74-75-78 and an 11-over par week. Junior Zach Norris posted scores of 81-75-76 and tied for 70th overall. Sophomore Cooper Parks fired rounds of 87-72-78 and tied for 81st.
Senior Allen Hamilton had the best round of his week with a 1-over par 73. He tied for 70th overall. Hamilton had four birdies on the day coming at the second, fifth, seventh and 17th holes.
