Alex Brown Named Kentucky Football Assistant General Manager
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alex Brown, a veteran personnel executive with experience at both the collegiate and professional levels, has been named assistant general manager for the Kentucky football program, head coach Will Stein announced Friday.
Brown joins the Wildcats after a brief stint as a national scout for the East-West Shrine Bowl and a BLESTO Mid-South area scout for the Atlanta Falcons.
“Alex brings a tremendous combination of college personnel experience and NFL scouting expertise to our program,” Stein said. “He is an outstanding evaluator who understands roster construction and the importance of building strong relationships throughout the recruiting process. His experience leading personnel departments at a high level will be extremely valuable. We’re excited to welcome Alex to Kentucky.”
Before joining the Falcons in July of 2025, Brown served as director of player personnel at Ole Miss for one season (March 2024-July 2025). He coordinated the Rebels’ player-acquisition efforts, led roster-management processes, and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the personnel department. He also managed recruiting evaluations and prospect boards while working closely with the coaching staff to identify positional needs and project future rosters. In 2025, he helped the Rebels sign a top-20 high school class and the nation’s No. 3 portal class, according to On3.com.
Brown spent the previous two seasons at SMU, initially serving as director of scouting and pro liaison before being promoted to senior director of player personnel/general manager in February 2023. He oversaw the Mustangs’ recruiting and scouting operations, managed scholarship and walk-on rosters and evaluated high school, junior college and transfer prospects. In 2022, Brown was named one of On3.com’s rising personnel/recruiting directors to watch.

Before SMU, Brown spent three years as Rice’s director of recruiting and pro liaison (2019-22), where he helped sign three consecutive top-five recruiting classes in program history. In that role, he organized the program’s roster-construction strategy, implemented an NFL-based evaluation and grading system, and coordinated recruiting operations, campus visits and prospect evaluations.
He began his collegiate career at Houston, holding several personnel and recruiting positions from 2015-19. Brown served as a recruiting assistant, assistant director of recruiting, interim director of recruiting, assistant director of player personnel and coordinator of recruiting. He also served as Houston’s pro liaison.
He enjoyed tremendous success with the Cougars, helping sign the nation’s highest-rated recruiting class among Group of Five programs. His work also contributed to the signing and development of two future first-round NFL Draft picks in Ed Oliver in 2016 and Payton Turner in 2017.
Brown began his scouting career with Optimum Scouting, evaluating prospects from the Big 12, Southeastern Conference, Conference USA and several other leagues from 2011-15. He returned to the organization as a national scout in June 2026, providing cross-check evaluations and consulting for the East-West Shrine Bowl.
Brown’s career also includes roles with NFL Network as an NFL Draft research assistant; USA Football as a national team writer; Bleacher Report as an NFL Draft featured columnist, and Grace Prep Academy as an assistant football coach.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014, graduating cum laude.
He is married to the former Brittani Bass, also of Arlington, Texas.
