Jacob Lang Has Historic Round Two at Bermuda Run Regional
BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – Jacob Lang etched his name into the Kentucky men’s golf record books on Tuesday, matching the best 18-hole score by a Wildcat in program history with his 7-under par round of 64 at Bermuda Run Country Club (par 71, 7013 yards).
Kentucky finished 6-over par as a team in round two, leaving the Cats in ninth place at 2-over par with 18 holes of competition remaining at the Bermuda Run Regional, hosted by Wake Forest.
At the end of 54 holes, the top five teams and the low individual on a non-advancing team, will move forward to the NCAA finals, held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, May 29 – June 3.
The Wildcats are currently 13 shots behind Southern Cal, who occupies the fifth and final spot inside the cutline. Lang, meanwhile, is positioned to advance as an individual entering the final round, as the sophomore sits in fifth place at 8-under par for the tournament.
Lang becomes the fifth Kentucky men’s golfer to card a 64 all-time joining Alex Goff, Cullan Brown, Chip McDaniel and Jordan Blann. His bogey-free round featured seven birdies, including birdies on his final three holes of the day, and four of his last five. The round betters his previous collegiate low of 68 by four shots. Lang now has 13 birdies in the tournament, tied for the second most in the 75-player field.
The freshmen duo of Cole Stockard and Cameron Phillips both signed for rounds of 74 (+3) on Tuesday, while Jacob Settles provided the fourth counting score with a 78 (+7).
Phillips, who birdied his opening hole of the day, is 1-over par for the tournament and tied for 38th.
Stockard birdied all three of Bermuda Run’s par 5s in round two, bringing him to 7-under par on the par 5s for the tournament, the lowest mark of any player in the field. He sits tied for 44th at 2-over par through 36 holes.
Entering the final round, Settles is in 66th at 8-over par, while Jack Schoenberger is tied for 70th at 13-over.
Virginia maintains the team lead at 27-under par, while the Cavaliers’ Ben James leads all players at 13-under through two rounds.
The Wildcats will begin round three at 8:25 a.m. on hole No. 1, playing alongside Wake Forest and Houston. Fans can follow along with live scoring courtesy of Scoreboard Powered by Clippd, or watch the live stream on Babygrandegolf.com.
