Kentucky Women’s Golf Battles Through the Elements in NCAA Tallahassee Regional Second Round

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team was on and off the golf course over a 10-hour stretch – sitting through three weather delays – in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional Second Round at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida, on Tuesday.

The team went 12-over in the second round for a 15-over tournament total to find solo seventh place ahead of the final 18. The top five teams at the end of the regional will advance to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, from May 22-27.

C.A. Carter held her position as the team-lead Tuesday, pairing her 1-under in the first round with a 2-over in the second round. The sophomore from Lexington, Kentucky, sprinkled four birdies across her scorecard, one more than she did in her under-par first round.

The Wildcat is 1-over-par 145 for a share of 15th place.

Karlie Campbell improved her score from the first round to the second round, turning in a scoring result for the team total Tuesday.

The sophomore went 1-over in the second round, earning four birdies on Nos. 2, 9, 14 and 16. Following the third weather delay, she closed out the second round with a birdie-bogey-birdie-par-par stretch. She moved up the individual leaderboard more than 15 spots on a 4-over tournament total for T24.

Raleygh Simpson got off to another strong start like she did the day before, assembling five straight pars followed by a birdie on the par-3 No. 5. Then, surrounding the near-three hour weather delay, she suffered a double-bogey-bogey stretch on hole Nos. 6-8 that set her back. She came up with a 4-over on the day to move to a 5-over for the event, dropping back to a share of 30th place ahead of the final round.

Cathryn Brown had an up-and-down day, ultimately turning in a 5-over in the second round. While she tied Carter and C.A. Carter with a team-lead four birdies, she clocked an uncharacteristic eight bogeys in between the numerous weather delays.

The junior and Eddyville, Kentucky, native is now 6-over for the event, sitting T34.

Samantha Paradise, the Florida native who battled through the cool wind and rain, came up with a 9-over Tuesday. She paired that with her impressive 2-over from Monday to sit in 51st place in just her second appearance in the lineup in her Kentucky career.

Kentucky will tee off in the final round – a chance to earn its way into the top five and punch a ticket to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship – Wednesday beginning at 8:55 a.m. ET, off the first tee, paired with North Florida and Purdue.
