Kentucky Men’s Golf Closes Out SEC Championship
ST SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Kentucky men’s golf finished out its time at the SEC Championship with a 13-over par final round at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course on Friday. The Wildcats ended the stroke play portion of the tournament in 16th place at 28-over par for 54 holes.
Sophomore Jacob Lang was the low individual for UK on the week. Lang shot a 74 (+4) on Friday to finish the tournament at 5-over par overall and tied for 58th. It was a sizeable improvement from his freshman year finish at the conference championship, when he placed 79th at 18-over par. Lang was the only Wildcat to be a counting score for the team in all three rounds this week.
In his debut SEC Championship, freshman Cole Stockard finished T65 at 7-over par total, following a final round of 72 (+2). Stockard led Kentucky with 10 birdies for the tournament, including two in his final round.
Senior captain Jack Schoenberger posted UK’s best third round score with a 71 (+1), bringing the native of Alpharetta, Georgia to T70 at 9-over par. Schoenberger was 1-under par on his final nine holes of the day with no bogeys and a lone birdie on No. 7 (par 5, 582 yards) on his homeward nine.
Gavin Clutts was inserted into the lineup on day three as a substitute and carded a 76 (+6), serving as the fourth counting score for the Wildcats.
Freshman Cameron Phillips shot a 78 (+8) on Friday to end the week at 12-over par and in 74th.
Kentucky will now look toward the NCAA Tournament selection show, scheduled for May 6. The Wildcats are hoping to earn a bid to NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2022.
