Zyon Hawthorne Joins Kentucky Men’s Basketball
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Zyon Hawthorne, a high school senior who played at Huntington Prep this past season, has officially signed on as a part of Kentucky men’s basketball’s 2026-27 roster, it was announced on Friday.
Hawthorne, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, averaged 11.2 points per game, 7.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds during his senior season and was a 1,000-point scorer in high school. Hawthorne averaged a double-double across three games while playing against some of the nation’s best at Big Shots Nationals, one of the elite prep tournaments in the country.
A native of Beckley, West Virginia, Hawthorne played his first three high school seasons at Woodrow Wilson High School where he was both an all-region and all-state selection. At the end of his junior season, Hawthorne ranked third in school history in total assists.
On the AAU circuit, Hawthorne played for WV Gold his ninth and 10th grade years. He was also a participant in the Wooten Top 150 camp.
Hawthorne has a 4.25 high school grade-point-average and is a lifelong UK fan. He chose Kentucky over other offers including Wichita State, Arkansas State, Radford, LaSalle and Bethune-Cookman.
He is the younger brother of current Wildcat, Braydon Hawthorne, who is entering his second year in Lexington after redshirting his freshman campaign.
