Kentucky Falters in Series Rubber Game at No. 10 Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. – Finishing its third road trip in four weekends, Kentucky fell flat in its series finale at No. 10 Auburn, dropping an 11-0, seven-inning decision at Plainsman Park on Sunday afternoon.
Kentucky now is 25-10 overall and 7-8 in the Southeastern Conference as it hits the midway point of league play. UK will play three of its final five series at Kentucky Proud Park.
A night after punching first, the Wildcats fell behind 3-0 after one inning on a 3-2, two-out home run. The Cats never recovered and found themselves in line for a run-rule defeat after allowing a seven-run fifth inning.
Tasked with keeping the leadoff man off base each inning as the key to stopping Auburn, the Tigers scored in six of the eight innings the first man reached over the past two days. Auburn did not score in any of the seven innings where the Cats recorded an out before a batter reached.
Luke Lawrence saw his reached base streak end at 39 games. It was the second-longest in the Mingione era behind Tristan Pompey’s 44 straight from 2017-18.
