Kentucky Saves Best Round for Sunday, Finishes 10th at Mason Rudolph
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Kentucky men’s golf wrapped up the Mason Rudolph Championship with its best round of the weekend on Sunday, going 3-over par as a team over the final 18 holes at Vanderbilt Legends Club (par 71, 7112 yards) to ultimately finish in 10th place.
No. 1 ranked Auburn cruised to the team title in a field which included 14 teams, plus an exhibition “B” squad for the host, Vanderbilt. Five of the 14 schools in the field were ranked inside the top 20 by Scoreboard Powered by Clippd.
The Wildcats, who were 23-over par for the championship, were led by freshman Cole Stockard, who picked up his third top 20 of the season, finishing T18 at 1-over par. Stockard made a whopping six birdies during his final round, giving him a team high 14 birdies on the tournament, tied for the most in the 81-player field. He was also one of just seven players in the field to be under par on par-3s for the weekend.
Jack Schoenberger had the best third round for the Wildcats, carding 1-under par to climb 14 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 32nd at 5-over total. With Kentucky starting its day on the back nine, Schoenberger went 3-under on his first nine holes, including birdies on No. 11 (par 3, 166 yards), No. 14 (par 5, 517 yards) and No. 18 (par 5, 522 yards).
Jacob Lang delivered a solid, even-par effort of 71 on Sunday, the 11th round at par-or-better for the sophomore this season. Lang was even par on both sides, with two birdies and two bogeys on each of his nines. The native of Alvaton, Kentucky ended the weekend at 10-over par and in a tie for 55th.
Jacob Settles was the third-highest UK finisher in the tournament, coming in at T48 at 9-over par after a final round of 76 (+5). Luke Coyle was a counting score in all three rounds for the Cats, finishing T65 at 13-over par, while individual competitor, Cameron Phillips, tied for 60th at 12-over for the tournament.
Kentucky will host the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational to finish up the regular season, April 13-14 at the University Club of Kentucky.
