Men’s Golf Seventh as Linger Longer Invitational Concludes

EATONTON, Ga. – The Kentucky men’s golf team registered a 2-over par team score on Sunday in the third and final round of the Linger Longer Invitational, finishing the tournament in seventh place among 18 teams at Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee (par 72, 7436 yards).

The Wildcats were 3-under as a team for the week, the fourth tournament this season finishing under par as a team and a third consecutive event in which they have done so to open the spring.

“We didn’t have our best stuff and you need it on a demanding test like Great Waters,” head coach Gator Todd said. “We’ll learn from it and be better before the Mason Rudolph.”

Jacob Settles put together a 3-under card of 69 to lead Kentucky in round three, highlighted by three consecutive birdies on holes two, three and four. The sophomore’s round jumped him 34 places on the leaderboard to finish T37 at 1-over par for the week.

“Settles really stepped up the last two rounds for us,” Todd said.

Cole Stockard was also in red figures on Sunday, finishing in 2-under, 70, with four birdies on the card. The freshman ended the tournament as Kentucky’s top finisher, placing T27 at 1-under par total. He now has a team-high 11 rounds under par this season.

Fellow freshman Cameron Phillips, who was making his first appearance in the starting lineup this week, was the next highest finisher for the Cats, concluding play at even par total and tied for 29th. Phillips had 15 birdies for the tournament to lead Kentucky and rank tied for the seventh most in the field.

Stockard and Phillips were both under par on par 3s for the week, two of just 11 players in the field to finish in red figures on Great Waters’ short holes.

“I’m proud of our freshman, Cole and Cam, for leading us this week,” Todd said.

Senior Jack Schoenberger tied for 45th at 4-over par total after a final round 77 (+5). Sophomore Jacob Lang was a counting score in round three with a 74 (+2) and ended the week at 9-over par and T79.

UK’s individual competitors Luke Coyle and Gavin Clutts both wrapped up play T57 at 5-over par. Coyle made the lone eagle for the Wildcats in the tournament, carding a two on the par 4, No. 11, in round three.

Kentucky will next tee it up at the Mason Rudolph Championship, held at Vanderbilt Legends Club, April 3-5.
