Big Blue Preview: No. 6/7 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to No. 5/5 Oklahoma on Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 6/7 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program (15-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference), who also is eighth in the latest NET rankings, will play host to No. 5/5 Oklahoma (14-2, 2-1 SEC) in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. ET.

Fans will receive a ”Go Big Blue” roll-up banner at the entrance, while supplies last. Doors open one hour prior to tip.

The 24-time national champion UK cheerleaders will perform this year’s competition routine at halftime.

Fans can still purchase single-game tickets to the top-10 game and all seven of the program’s remaining home games this season. To shop single-game tickets, click here, and for a full list of the program’s nonconference promotional lineup, click here.

It’s also First Responders Day; discounted and free ticket options are available to claim through 1sttix.org.

Darren Headrick will have the Kentucky-Oklahoma radio call for UK Sports Network on 630 AM WLAP in Lexington and on 790 AM WKRD in Louisville. It also will be carried on SiriusXM channel 113 or 201 and on the SiriusXM App.

UK Athletics recommends nine parking locations for fans attending games this season, including two parking locations with shuttle transportation (The Cornerstone Garage, High Street Lot). The shuttle at those parking locations starts 90 minutes prior to tip-off and breaks at the end of the first quarter. It resumes at the start of the third quarter and runs one hour postgame.

The Wildcats, who are 8-0 inside Historic Memorial Coliseum, are 15-2 overall and 2-1 in the SEC. After starting the conference schedule 2-0, which included a road win over No. 5/5 LSU on New Year’s Day, Kentucky is coming off a loss to RV/No. 24 Alabama, 64-51, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Thursday.

Without starting forward Teonni Key, who was averaging 11.0 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game before her arm injury, Kentucky got 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists from senior point guard Tonie Morgan and 12 points from junior guard Asia Boone in the loss at the Capstone.

Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List candidate Clara Strack added a game-high 13 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals to go along with four points.

The Wildcats are 2-1 against Associated Press Top 25 teams thus far this season, with wins at No. 21/19 Louisville, 72-62, and at No. 5/5 LSU, 80-78, and a loss to No. 7/6 Maryland, 74-66.

Both ranked wins have come on the road, while their lone loss to the Terrapins came on a neutral court in Puerto Rico.

No. 5/5 Oklahoma will be the first ranked program Kentucky has hosted this season.

This is the seventh all-time meeting between the two teams.

Kentucky leads Oklahoma, 4-2, in the series. UK leads OU in games played in Lexington, 1-0. The lone time UK and OU played in Lexington was in the SEC / Big12 Challenge on Dec. 1, 2016 (82-68).

The Wildcats and the Sooners split their meetings last season, with the Cats taking down the 11th-ranked Sooners on the road last season, 95-86. Georgia Amoore dropped a school-record-tying 43 points in that game, while Clara Strack had 19 points, a trio of 3s, six rebounds, five steals and two blocks.

Then, the two teams played each other in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals and UK fell to OU, 69-65. Strack had 12 points and 16 rebounds in that game.
