Marqes Muir Begins Professional Career, Signs with Lexington SC
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former Kentucky Wildcat defender Marqes Muir officially set to begin his professional career today after signing a multi-year contract with local USL Championship side Lexington Sporting Club Tuesday morning.
Muir captained the Wildcats during his sophomore and junior seasons, becoming a mainstay of Kentucky’s defensive backline. The English-international earned 53 career caps in his three seasons in Lexington, appearing in the starting XI in each match.
In his final season with the Wildcats, Muir was named to the 2025 All-Sun Belt First Team and SBC All-Tournament Team, along with coming in at No. 23 on the TopDrawerSoccer Midseason Top 100 list. In 2024, Muir featured as one of three Wildcats to earn All-Sun Belt Second honors.
Prior to the 2025 collegiate season, Muir made 12 starts for Lexington’s USL League Two side, totaling 1,080 minutes of play.
“I’m really excited to sign with Lexington Sporting Club,” said Muir. “I’m looking forward to playing with this group and winning some trophies next season.”
“I’m really proud of Marqes for earning his first professional contract,” said Kentucky Head Coach Johan Cedergren. “With the pipeline of pros coming out of our program, it’s just another one for us. Marqes is one of the best center-backs in the country and I’m not surprised he’s found a home. I am looking forward to following his career that’s hopefully going to last many years.”
