Stockard Shoots 1-Under, Men’s Golf Climbs to T-11 at Williams Cup
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman Cole Stockard led a Kentucky charge as the Wildcats climbed four spots on the leaderboard during round two of the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club (par 72, 7353 yards). UK turned in a team total of 294 (+6) on Monday, leaving the Cats in a tie for 11th place at 20-over par overall with one round to play.
Stockard carded the first under-par effort of the tournament for the Cats, going 3-under over his final 13 holes of the day to finish in 1-under par, 71. It was the sixth round at par-or-better for Stockard this season, tying him for the most on the team. The Dalton, Ga. native leads the UK contingent and is tied for 26th on the leaderboard amongst a field of 81 players.
Sophomore Jacob Lang improved his first-round score by five shots, tallying a card of 73 (+1) on Monday. Starting on hole No. 10, Lang made two early birdies on No. 11 (par 4, 448 yards) and No. 13 (par 4, 423 yards) and is now tied for 56th at 7-over par.
Jack Schoenberger remains in the top 40 after a second round of 75 (+3), while Gavin Clutts finds himself T-46, having also signed for 75 (+3) in round two.
Junior transfer Luke Coyle shaved one shot off his round one total, firing a 76 (+4) on Monday which included three birdies.
Kentucky’s starting lineup made 13 birdies on Monday and just one double-bogey. The Cats’ 6-over par effort was tied for the fourth-best team score of the day among the 15 competing teams.
Florida continues to lead the tournament, now at 24-under par, holding a 19-shot advantage. The Gators’ Zach Swanwick and Notre Dame’s Nate Stevens are tied for the individual lead at 7-under par.
UK will once again be off the back nine for the final round on Tuesday, paired with Louisville and UNC Wilmington. Kentucky’s tee times will be from 8:25 – 9:05 a.m. Fans can follow along with live scoring on golfstat.com.
