Wildcats in 15th After Day One at Williams Cup

WILMINGTON, N.C.– Kentucky men’s golf posted a 14-over round of 302 on day one at the Williams Cup, leaving the Cats in 15th place as a team through 18 holes at Eagle Point Golf Club (par 72, 7353 yards).

Starting the day on Eagle Point’s back nine, the Wildcats fell behind early. The starting five was a combined 14-over par over their first nine holes, but improved on the homeward half by going a collective 6-over par.

Jack Schoenberger was the low man for UK in round one, carding a 74 (+2) which featured back-to-back birdies on No. 3 (par 4, 386 yards) and No. 4 (par 5, 640 yards). The senior captain is tied for 39th among the 81 competing players.

Making his first appearance as a starter this season, sophomore Gavin Clutts signed for a 75 (+3) and is T-55. Clutts’ four birdies were the most by any Wildcat on day one.

Freshman Cole Stockard is T-63 at 4-over par. He is followed by Luke Coyle, tied for 68th at 5-over, and Jacob Lang, whose opening round of 78 (+6) puts him in solo 74th.

Kentucky’s starting five combined for 12 birdies on day one.

Florida leads the tournament at 12-under par as a team, while Notre Dame’s Jacob Modleski is the individual leader after a round of 67 (-5).

The Cats now shift their sights to round two, set to take place on Monday. Kentucky will be paired with North Carolina’s “B” team and Augusta with tee times off hole No. 10 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:25 a.m.
