Rankin, Arseneault Compete at ITA Ohio Valley Regional
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Kentucky men’s tennis players Mikael Arsenault and Matt Rankin completed play at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships over the weekend. The tournament was hosted by Purdue University at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Arseneault and Rankin were both entered in the main draw for singles. Rankin entered as the tournament’s No. 9 seed.
In the round of 64, Arseneault fell to No. 11 seed Ondrej Horak of Middle Tennessee in a three-set affair. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native won the opening set 6-2 but was unable to complete the upset after dropping the second and third sets.
Rankin was victorious in his opening match, defeating Fernando Bulnes of Eastern Kentucky, 6-4, 6-2. However, the Edinburgh, Scotland native was upset in the round of 32, falling to Kyle McNally of Dayton, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Kentucky will return to competition at the ITA South Sectional Championships from November 6-9 in Athens, Georgia. The tournament will serve as the final qualification opportunity for the 2025 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
