No. 7 Kentucky Opens 2025 Season with Wednesday Doubleheader

LEXINGTON, Ky. –  The seventh-ranked Kentucky Men’s Tennis team will begin its 2025 campaign at home on Wednesday, taking on Northern Kentucky and Xavier in a doubleheader at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington. The season opener against the Norse will begin at 10 a.m. ET with the matchup against the Musketeers following at 3 p.m. ET. Admission to all home matches at the Boone is free for the public.

The Wildcats enter the 2025 season after a stellar 2024 campaign in which they posted a 27-3 overall record, including a perfect 12-0 record in SEC play. The 2024 Wildcats won the outright league regular season championship and the SEC tournament before advancing to the program’s third consecutive NCAA quarterfinal. Five players—All-SEC performers Charlelie Cosnet and Jaden Weekes, SEC All-Freshman performers Jack Loutit and Eli Stephenson, and Matt Rankin—return for the Wildcats. Kentucky has also added three newcomers—ITA No. 1 newcomer Antoine Ghibaudo, Baylor transfer Martin Breysach, and Canadian Junior National Runner-Up Eric Crivei.

NKU enters the 2025 season after a 12-8 record in 2024 and a trip to the Horizon League quarterfinals. Xavier posted a 4-18 record a year ago and fell to Georgetown in the Big East quarterfinals. Wednesday’s matches will be the season openers for both teams.

Following Wednesday’s doubleheader, the Cats will travel north to East Lansing, Mich., as No. 7 Kentucky will battle No. 23 Michigan State for their first ranked test of the young season. The week one finale will take place on Friday, January 17 at 5 p.m. ET at the MSU Tennis Center.

All home matches will be played at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex and admission is free to the public for all regular season contests. A live stream will be provided for all home matches on UKAthletics.com.
