Emma Grome Named SEC Player and Setter of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the 20th time in her storied career, Kentucky setter Emma Grome was named the Southeastern Conference’s Setter of the Week on Monday afternoon, the league office announced. Additionally, Grome was named the SEC’s overall Player of the Week.
Grome steered the Kentucky offense to a .325 hitting percentage for the week with 10.83 assists per set as the Wildcats secured a clinch of their eighth-straight conference championship. Grome had 65 assists on the two-match week with 17 digs and six stuff blocks. She distributed the offense masterfully Wednesday night as Kentucky had six players who had six or more kills in the match and none over 10 as Grome and the Wildcats showed off their balance offensively, and Grome followed that up with a title-clinching performance of a double-double as she dished out 28 assists and had 10 digs to pair with it. She also recorded an ace in both matches.
With one match remaining in the SEC season, Kentucky now is 13-2 with Florida and Texas both sitting at 11-3, one match back in the loss column with both needing to play two more matches.
Kentucky will play at Missouri on Wednesday evening to conclude the regular season at 8 p.m. ET. A win over the Tigers would clinch the outright championship for Kentucky. The match will be shown live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app from the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Missouri.
