Ryan Jack Named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s soccer goalkeeper Ryan Jack has been named Defensive Player of the Week, the Sun Belt Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Last Friday at No. 6 West Virginia (5-0-2, 1-0-1 Sun Belt), Jack recorded three saves for the second consecutive clean sheet for Kentucky (1-2-4, 0-0-2 Sun Belt). The shutout was the second of the keeper’s college soccer career, as well as the first of the season for the Cats.

“Ryan has been a great asset for us in the goal the past two matches,” head coach Johan Cedergren said. “His composure and readiness in the net has been the key to starting Sun Belt play with two points and two clean sheets.”

The South Riding, Va. native has improved his junior season record to 0-0-2 following two starts and 0-0 draws against both Georgia Southern and WVU. The award is the first conference honor of Jack’s career at Kentucky.

“Shutting out a top 10 opponent like West Virginia is a testament to Ryan’s hard work,” stated Cedergren. “I look forward to his continued development as he works with Coach (Ryan) Hulings in the coming weeks.”

Kentucky will travel to South Carolina (6-1-2, 1-1 Sun Belt) for a 7 p.m. EST Friday conference matchup at Stone III Stadium in Columbia, S.C.
