Jack Schoenberger Leads Way for Wildcats After Round One at Folds of Honor
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – In its opening round of the 2024-25 season, Kentucky men’s golf carded a 14-over par team score of 298 to end day one of the Folds of Honor Collegiate in ninth place at American Dunes Golf Club.
UK was led by junior transfer, Jack Schoenberger, who carded a 2-over par score of 73 in his first round as a Wildcat. Schoenberger, who previously attended Belmont, birdied his very first hole of the day and went out in 1-under par, 34. The Georgia native made three bogeys on his homeward half, but still ended the day in a tie for 18th in the 75-player field.
Solomon Petrie, a redshirt sophomore, is tied for 27th after putting together a 3-over effort of 74 which saw the native of Akron, Ohio make birdies on No. 2 and No. 15. Senior captain Jansen Preston follows Petrie at 4-over par and in a tie for 36th, righting the ship after a 40 on the front nine with a 1-under, 35 on the back side. The Lexington local registered birdies on Nos. 11 and 14 to post a score of 75.
True freshman Gavin Clutts performed admirably in the first start of his collegiate career, finishing the day T-44 at 5-over par. Clutts, who hails from Hazard, Kentucky, was just one over par through 17 holes, but closed his day with a nine on No. 18. The newcomer made birdie on the first hole of his college career and was able to add another on No. 14.
Graduate-transfer Jackson Klutznick had an up-and-down day one, recording a team-high three birdies on the round but finishing with an 82 (+11) and in 72nd place. Klutznick played his last five holes in even-par, including a closing birdie on No. 18, and will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow’s second round.
Alabama finds itself atop the board after 18 holes, jumping out of the gates with a 9-under par total to hold an 11-shot lead after the opening round. The Crimson Tide were the sole team among the 15 in the field to finish under-par collectively on Monday.
The Wildcats will return for the second round of play on Tuesday morning, starting on hole No. 10 from 8 – 8:36 a.m. Golf Channel will have live coverage from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and fans can also follow along with live scoring on Scoreboard Powered by CLIPPD.
The Folds of Honor collegiate benefits the non-profit organization, Folds of Honor, which provides educational scholarships to the children and spouses of military members who have fallen or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The tournament is in its third year overall with Kentucky participating for the second-consecutive season in 2024.
