Bettie Lou Evans Invitational Returns, 2024-25 Kentucky Women’s Golf Schedule Released
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The return of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational headlines the 2024-25 University of Kentucky women’s golf schedule for the upcoming season, which was announced by head coach Golda Borst on Wednesday.
The schedule features nine events in the regular season, including four in the fall and five in the spring, followed by the Southeastern Conference Championship and hopeful postseason stops at the NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championship.
“While our schedule will take us to some familiar tournaments, we’ve added in several new tournaments,” Borst said. “The most exciting addition is the return of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. We’re thankful to be able to host the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational again, as we’re constantly reminded of everything she did and accomplished for our program! We’re also excited to add what looks like one of the strongest collegiate events in the country, the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in the spring.”
The schedule commences with the 31st Bettie Lou Evans Invitational Sept. 8-10 at Champion Trace at Keene Trace Golf Club. Evans, the Wildcats’ women’s golf coach from 1979 to 2001 and Director of Golf Operations for the men’s and women’s programs for the next 17 years, died Sept. 26, 2023. To honor her memory and celebrate the history of the program, Kentucky also will host an alumni weekend in conjunction with the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational.
The last time Kentucky hosted the tournament was at the University Club of Kentucky in 2019, when the team was crowned champions for the second straight season.
The Wildcats will then play at the Mason Rudolph Championship Sept. 20-22 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee, followed by the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 11-13 at the Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, both of which are familiar tournaments and golf courses for the Cats.
Just two seasons ago, UK won the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in 2022.
For the first time in program history, Kentucky will play its fall finale at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational. It marks the first of two Charles Schwab events the team will play in 2024-25, with the first event scheduled for Oct. 25-27 at the Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
“This season is sure to bring new adventures for our team,” Borst said. “We have a young and hungry group that is excited to take on 2024-25, including five freshmen, two sophomores, a junior and a senior.”
In an effort to prepare a young team for a long spring, Kentucky will play a tri-match against Indiana and Louisville on Jan. 21 at the Shadow Wood Country Club in Naples, Florida.
Following the tri-match, three of the next four tournaments will be new stops for the Wildcats.
It starts with the Paradise Invitational Feb. 3-4 at the Osprey Point Golf Course in Boca Raton, Florida, followed by the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational Feb. 18-19 at the Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida.
The Wildcats will then return to the familiar Darius Rucker Intercollegiate March 3-5 at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Cats conclude their schedule at the spring iteration of the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational March 23-25, which this time will be hosted at the Colonial Country Club at Fort Worth, Texas.
“Overall, we have a challenging, yet balanced schedule that should test our team and prepare us for the postseason,” Borst said.
The Southeastern Conference Championship April 15-20 returns to the Pelican Golf Club in Tampa, Florida, for the second straight season. Last spring, Kentucky made its first cut at the SEC Championship in its six seasons of the current format, reaching match play as the fifth seed before falling to eventual champions Mississippi State.
NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 5-7 at six locations – to be announced – across the nation, while the NCAA Championship returns to Omni La Costa Resort and Spa at Carlsbad, California, for the second straight season.
