Kentucky Women’s Basketball Signs 6-4 Forward Teonni Key
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program inked a 6-4 forward to its incoming class, head coach Kenny Brooks announced Tuesday. Teonni Key, a transfer out of North Carolina, will join the program as a redshirt junior in 2024-25.
“I’m very excited about the addition of Teonni Key to BBN,” Brooks said. “Her length and athleticism will add to our philosophies on both ends of the floor. She has mounds of potential that we look forward to unleashing.”

Teonni Key, a Cary, North Carolina, native, averaged 2.5 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game in just 9.9 minutes per game in two seasons at North Carolina.
In 2023-24, the redshirt sophomore appeared in 23 games, earning 2.7 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per games. She missed the first 10 games of the season because of a lower body injury. She made her debut against Western Carolina on Dec. 15, leading her team on a career-high 10 rebounds, seven points, three blocks and two assists in just under 18 minutes.
In other notable games, she scored a season-high 11 points on 5-of-6 from the field in just 16 minutes against Pittsburgh on Feb. 15. She also scored five points, grabbed seven rebounds, including four offensive rebounds, swatted two blocks and dished out one assist in a career-high 21 minutes in a triumph over Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament on March 22.
Key played in 28 games and started in one as a redshirt freshman in 2022-23, averaging 2.4 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game. In her college debut against S.C. State on Nov. 16, she recorded a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds.
She missed her entire freshman season after sustaining an ACL tear in a preseason scrimmage in 2021-22.
Key was ranked as the No. 9 recruit in the Class of 2021, according to espnW. She was a four-year, all-conference selection out of Cary High School in Cary, North Carolina, also earning all-state second team honors and team MVP honors as a junior. Moreover, she was an Academic Athletic Honor Roll choice all four years in high school.
Key, who’s sister, Tamari Key, played at Tennessee from 2020-24, was a multi-sport, student-athlete in high school, reaching the finals in high jump at the 2018 New Balance Nationals. There, she finished in 10th place on a height of 5-7.
