Kentucky Track & Field Earn Eight Event Wins to Close USF Alumni Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. — The Kentucky Track & Field program concluded the USF Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida today.

The Wildcats picked up three event wins today with 19 finishes inside the top 10. In total, the program finishes the weekend with eight event wins and 36 top 10 finishes including a new women’s freshman hammer throw record set by Kate Powers on Friday.

Freshman Ed Bird earned the first event win of the afternoon today after he held off teammate senior Jake Allen in the men’s 1500 meters down the straight as the pair finished 1-2 with times of 3:45.89 and 3:45.91 respectively.

Junior Alexis Glasco came away with victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.04 (+1.6) that ranks 7th on the UK all-time performers list.

Additionally, Muunga took second in the men’s 100-meter dash after running the third fastest time in school history at 10.18 (+2.0), a personal best for the transfer student.

The final bit of success from the weekend came from Kentucky’s relays as the “A” team consisting of junior Clinton Muunga and freshman Shavique Bascus, Miles Jones, and Troy Lane ran the sixth fastest time in school history with a time of 39.32 to finish second in the men’s 4×100 meter relay. On the women’s side, Kentucky’s “A” team consisting of freshman Cha’iel Johnson, senior Jania Martin, and juniors Alysia Johnson and Hannah Douglas won the women’s 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:34.63 to conclude the meet.

The Wildcats will enjoy a bye weekend before sending athletes to the Texas Relays, Battle on the Bayou, and the Stanford Invitational at the end of the month.

SPRINTS & HURDLES

100M

WOMEN – Freshman Morgan Davis finished third with a time of 11.59 (+4.7) while senior Iantha Wright finished fifth with a time of 11.64 (+4.7).

MEN – Junior Clinton Muunga took second in the men’s 100-meter dash after running the third fastest time in school history at 10.18 (+2.0), a personal best for the transfer student. Freshman Miles Jones finished seventh with a time of 10.37 (+2.0).

WOMEN – Junior Alexis Glasco came away with victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.04 (+1.6) that ranks 7th on the UK all-time performers list.

MEN – Freshman Alexander Chukwukelu finished third with a time of 13.79 (+2.4).

400M

WOMEN – Senior Jania Martin placed second with a time of 52.75 with junior Alysia Johnson just behind in third with a time of 53.36.

MEN – Ethan Brown finished fourth with a time of 46.78 in his outdoor debut for the Wildcats while senior Justin Swann ran a personal best time of 48.55 to finish 14th.

WOMEN – Kentucky’s “A” team consisting of junior Victoria Perrow, freshman Morgan Davis, senior Jania Martin, and junior Alexis Glasco placed fourth with a time of 44.39.
MEN –
Kentucky “A” team consisting of junior Clinton Muunga and freshman Shavique Bascus, Miles Jones, and Troy Lane ran the sixth fastest time in school history with a time of 39.32 to finish second.

4x400M

WOMEN – Kentucky’s “A” team consisting of freshman Cha’iel Johnson, senior Jania Martin, and juniors Alysia Johnson and Hannah Douglas won the women’s 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:34.63.

WOMEN – Sophomore Ally Kruger ran a personal best time of 4:22.38 to finish fifth.
MEN –
