Kentucky Hosts No. 25 Georgia on SEC Opening Weekend
Now things get real.
Southeastern Conference play opens Friday with the first of a 30-game gauntlet in the country’s most unforgiving and rugged league as Kentucky hosts No. 25 Georgia at Kentucky Proud Park. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. ET on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
All three games will stream on SECN+.
The Wildcats (14-3) and Bulldogs (17-1) have traded series victories the past two seasons with UK winning two games in Lexington in 2022 and Georgia doing so last year in Athens, including a seven-inning doubleheader sweep. Georgia is off to its best start in modern history under first-year head coach Wes Johnson and leads the nation in home runs with 52. Charlie Condron has been a one-man wrecking crew in a loaded lineup, batting .569 with an OPS of 1.978 and 13 home runs.
Kentucky, meanwhile, has thrived more on its signature “chaos” style of keeping the line moving by any means necessary. The Cats erased a 6-0 deficit on Tuesday night with 10 unanswered runs and saw DH Nick Lopez go 5-for-5 at the plate. Lopez currently is batting over .400.
UK will keep its weekend rotation intact, starting righty Travis Smith on Friday, lefty Dom Niman on Saturday and righty Mason Moore on Sunday.
