Duncan Posts SEC Career Best, UK Men Sixth After Day One of SEC Championships

AUBURN, Ala.- Kentucky Swimming & Diving completed its first day of competition at the 2024 Southeastern Conference Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center on the campus of Auburn University on Monday, with the UK men ending the day in sixth-place.

The Wildcats, led by senior Samuel Duncan, competed in the men’s 1-meter diving, the only scoring event of the day. Duncan ranked 13th in prelims and finished first in the “B-Final” to post his best career SEC finish on the 1-meter. The captain scored 354.05 in the final, earning the team 20 points by virtue of his ninth-place finish. Freshman Gavin Hang also added three points for the Cats by ranking in the top-24 of the event.

On the women’s side, Kentucky diving placed fifth in the team diving exhibition. Team diving events were added to the meet for the first time in SEC Championship history. Three divers from each team combined to complete six dives, consisting of a dive from each group and no more than two from any of the apparatuses. The combined total of the dives created the team score.

Day two of the championship starts with time trials at 10 a.m. C.T., followed by Women’s 3-meter prelims, with B-Finals directly after. The inaugural men’s team diving event will take place at 4:20 p.m., with the 200 medley relay to start at 5 p.m., along with the women’s 3-meter final. The day wraps up with the 800 free relay.
