Men’s Golf Takes Tee for Spring Opener on Monday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s golf begins its first spring season under head coach Gator Todd this Monday as the Wildcats are set to take part in the Battle at Briar’s Creek, hosted by the College of Charleston.
The 54-hole event will be played at the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek (Par 72, 7,775 yards) and feature a total of 14 teams. The first two rounds will be played on Monday, while the final round will take place Tuesday. Play will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days.
The Wildcats will be paired with UNC Wilmington and Augusta for the opening two rounds, teeing off Nos. 4-7.
“We’re excited to get our spring season started,” Todd said. “We’ve had a couple great weeks of prep and the guys have done an outstanding job of improving in the areas we have challenged them all with individually over the winter break. The fall was about building the right habits and behaviors and creating a good foundation for Kentucky golf. This spring we’re looking for our guys to have an edge to them. Are we going to be pushed or are we going to do the pushing? We have things to prove, and I can’t wait to see our guys compete.”
The Wildcats are coming off a strong conclusion to a fall season which saw them place fourth at their final two events: The Blessings Collegiate Invitational, and the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
Graduate Alex Goff, a Second-Team All SEC selection last season, leads the way for the Wildcats, coming off a 69.36 scoring average this fall which resulted in four top-10 finishes. A Haskins Award Watch List member, Goff is currently ranked No. 19 in the PGA Tour University Rankings.
Goff will be joined in the UK starting lineup by senior Campbell Kremer, junior Jansen Preston, sophomore Andrew Clark and redshirt freshman Oakley Gee. Graduate-student Cooper Parks will compete as an individual.
Kremer, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, posted a 74.55 scoring average this fall with his best finish coming at the Folds of Honor Collegiate where he placed 16th.
Preston, a transfer from Vanderbilt, notched a 75.00 average in his first semester with the Wildcats including three rounds of par or better.
Clark participated in two fall events highlighted by a fifth-place showing at the Indy at Forest Hills, which saw the Florida native card a second-round 68.
Gee is set for his first spring event as a Wildcat after competing twice this past fall, tying for third at the Indy at Forest Hills event with rounds of 70-71.
