Team Records and Series Notes  

  • Kentucky is 9-12 overall and 2-5 in the Southeastern Conference in 2023-24, while Alabama is 16-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference this season.
  • The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program is in its 50th season.
    • UK has a 903-600 (.601) all-time record.
  • Kyra Elzy is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats, holding a 58-52 (.527) overall record.
    • She has a 21-33 overall record in the SEC.
  • The Wildcats remain the leader in the all-time series with the Crimson Tide, 36-19, and in games played in Tuscaloosa, 14-11.

      • UK is 0-1 when using that starting combination.
    • The Wildcats lost the opening tip.
    • Ajae Petty was the first player to score for Kentucky.
    • Eniya Russell was the first substitute off the bench for Kentucky.
  • Five Wildcats scored in double digits for the third time this season.
    • The Cats are 2-1 when five players score in double digits in 2023-24.

 

How It Happened

  • Kentucky earned an 8-0 run right up to the first media timeout (3:14), to take a 12-8 lead. That run began with a 3-pointer from Amiya Jenkins, who re-entered the starting lineup for the first time in 13 games. It already marked her second field goal of the game.
    • Saniah Tyler capped that 8-0 run with a 3-pointer for herself, which would be the first of three she recorded in the first quarter, as the sophomore went into the period break going 3-of-3 from behind the arc.
    • Kentucky led Alabama, 20-16, at the end of the first quarter.
      • UK got outrebounded, 14-7, in that period, with UA grabbing 10 offensive rebounds.
  • Kentucky and Alabama were tied, 29-29, by the second quarter media timeout (4:52), with UA using a pair of runs (5-0 and 6-0) in the first five minutes of the period to tighten the game.
    • The Crimson Tide went on another 6-0 run out of the timeout, thanks to a pair of 3-pointers. The Wildcats responded with a 5-0 run, but the Tide came back with another 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the, 42-34, with less than two minutes remaining in the quarter.
      • The 7-0 run led the Cats to call their first timeout of the game.
    • Out of the timeout, UA stretched its 7-0 run into a 11-2 run to close out the period.
    • Kentucky trailed Alabama, 46-36, at halftime.
      • UA turned its 30.0 percent shooting in the first quarter to 77.0 percent shooting in the second quarter.
  • The Crimson Tide went on a 15-2 run through the first four minutes and seven seconds of the third quarter to taking a 61-38 lead, as the Wildcats had to burn two of its three remaining timeouts during that stretch.
    • Out of the timeout, Saniah Tyler made her fourth 3-pointer of the game, before the Tide put together another 7-0 run.
    • Kentucky would make one more 3-pointer by Amiya Jenkins and a complete and-1 play by Brooklynn Miles, keeping Alabama scoreless from the field in the final three minutes of the period.
    • Kentucky trailed Alabama, 70-47, at the end of the third quarter.
  • Kentucky made six of its nine attempts from the field through the first five minutes and 12 seconds of the fourth quarter, closing the gap on Alabama’s lead, 78-60.
    • Balanced scoring the rest of the way didn’t allow for UK to make a run.
    • Kentucky lost to Alabama, 91-74.
