LEXINGTON ? Kentucky sophomore Collin Cowgill was named to the Valley Baseball League All-League Team this summer after leading the Covington Lumberjacks to the South Division title.
Cowgill, a Lexington native, batted .306 for the summer season while leading the VBL with 10 home runs, a .604 slugging percentage and 87 total bases. He also finished third in the league in triples and fifth in runs scored.
The VBL is in its 44th year, including its 13th as a wood bat summer league for college players. Among its alumni are current major league standouts Javier Lopez, Aubrey Huff, Mike Lowell, Mike Maroth and Juan Pierre.
As a freshman for Kentucky, Cowgill started 31 games mostly in left field. He belted a pair of home runs and drove in 19 as the Wildcats had their first winning season in five years.
