LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky standout right-handed pitchers Jordan Cooper and Alex Meyer squared off in a pitching duel to complete the UK baseball fall practice season, with the black team besting the blue squad 2-1 in the Fall World Series, on Sunday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Cooper, Meyer and freshman Corey Littrell highlighted the early innings on the mound of the eight-inning intrasquad scrimmage Sunday, with Cooper tossing three innings and allowing the two decisive black runs. The Shelbyville, Tenn., native struck out five in three innings, walking one and allowing just two hits.

Littrell, a native of Louisville, Ky., and Trinity product, started for the black team and pitched two scoreless innings. Meyer, 6-foot-9 product of Greensburg, Ind., then came on in relief and hurled three innings, with four strikeouts and no walks. Meyer allowed only one run after a pair of errors and loaded the bases, with the run scoring on a passed ball.

For the black team, Sean Kelly and Tyler Dunaway pitched in relief of Littrell and Meyer. For the blue team, Canadian freshman Jonathan Paquet, Tyler Raymond, Sam Kidd and Nick Kennedy pitched in relief of Cooper.

Offensively, for the black team, Lucas Witt, Taylor Black, Neiko Johnson and Steven Hoagland recorded hits. On the blue squad Luke Maile, Matt Reida, T.J. Daugherty and Sam Kidd collected hits.

The scrimmage ends the team portion of the fall practice season. The Wildcats will return to the practice field, as a team, in the 2011 preseason. The black team won the three-game series, 2-1.
