PRIOR TO KENTUCKY
After starring in junior college, Chavez matriculated to ETSO, where he struck out nearly two batters per inning…Had arm surgery and opted to look for another opportunity.

2021 (East Tennessee State)
As one of the most powerful arms in the ETSU bullpen, Chavez made 18 appearances in relief…In 22.0 innings of work, he recorded four saves, accumulated an 0-3 record and a 4.91 ERA…The junior transfer began the season with three saves in five appearances and didn’t allow a run in his first six innings of work, striking out 11…Chavez racked up a career-high four strikeouts in his debut vs Northern Kentucky (2/20) and reached that feat two more times…He totaled 40 strikeouts in his 22 innings of relief… Picked up his first career save vs NKU (2/20) and played a role in both of ETSU’s shutouts this season.

JUNIOR COLLEGE
Transfer from Eastern Arizona College where he held a 3.38 ERA in 21.1 innings of work in 2019… had 13 strikeouts and a 2-2 record with one save…In the 2020 shortened season, went 1-4, with a 2.64 ERA, 43 K’s, 19 BB in 30 innings on the mound…Coached by John Chalmers.

Parents are Greg and Denys…Played his high school baseball at Blue Ridge High School for coaches Chad Ashcraft and Brad Edgington…Also played basketball…Loves to hunt…Favorite MLB player is Lexington native Walker Buehler…Superstition is he eats a bag of Takis a day.
