Having just completed his 15th year at Kentucky in 2019-20, Craig Hornberger serves as senior creative director for the UK Athletics Department and is involved with creating the public facing graphic identity for Kentucky men’s basketball, cross country, track and field, and men’s golf teams. He also oversees UK’s award-winning creative services office, which produces a wide array of visual messaging for all sports and units within the department.

UK Athletics led the nation in 2016-17 with 14 Citation of Excellence or Best in the Nation awards in the annual College Sports Information Directors of America publications contest. For his part, Hornberger has received many CoSIDA Best in the Nation awards for the layout and design of various athletic department publications, including: the 2009-10 and 2010-11 men’s basketball yearbooks; and the 2010-11 and 2015-16 men’s basketball posters. UK’s Athletic Annual Report, which Hornberger designs and art directs, has twice received an American Inhouse Design Award from Graphic Design USA and earned CoSIDA Best in the Nation honors in 2012 and 2016.

In addition to his regular duties, Hornberger has represented UK Athletics on campus-wide requests for proposal committees to select commercial full-service and stationery print vendors for the university.

Prior to coming to UK, Hornberger was the sports publications director at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, since 1988. While there, he oversaw the collection and layout of artifacts and imagery for the University of Virginia Football Hall of Fame. In 1995, he worked as the photo research editor for the book, ‘Hoos ‘N’ Hokies: The Rivalry. He also collaborated with the UVa Development Office in the production of First and Goal, a publication about the school’s football stadium expansion project. The publication received a 1999 Award of Excellence from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

From 1985 to 1988, Hornberger worked as publications editor for the Virginia Student Aid Foundation. During that time, he managed production of the VSAF’s national award-winning quarterly magazine, Virginia: Inside Cavalier Sports. Before working for VSAF, Hornberger spent one year as sports publications director at West Virginia University.

He is a graduate of Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. Following graduation, he interned in the sports information offices at Princeton University and Virginia.

Hornberger is married to the former Lora Sackett of Smithfield, Pennsylvania.
