Morgan Gaerte SEC Player of the Week, O’Brien Setter of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southeastern Conference named Kentucky Volleyball player Morgan Gaerte as its SEC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, in addition to the league’s offensive player of the week and setter Kassie O’Brien was named the SEC Setter of the Week.
Gaerte hit .350 in her first match at a new position this season, going for 19 kills on 40 swings as an outside hitter in Kentucky’s 3-0 sweep of Missouri. The 19 kills are only two shy of her season-high and career-high 21 set in the league opener at Vanderbilt. It was her third SEC match this season hitting .350 or above, and doing it from the left side with considerably more swings out of system. Gaerte also had seven assists and only errored five times.
Kassie O’Brien averaged 14.33 assists per set in her 43-assist performance Friday night as Kentucky swept Missouri in three. O’Brien had a complete stat line for the Wildcats with helping lead UK to a .327 team hitting percentage, seven digs and a pair of both blocks and kills to push UK past the Tigers. O’Brien has now gone five of her last six matches with recording 40 or more kills with three of those coming as three-set matches.
Kentucky closes out its SEC home slate of regular-season matches this weekend inside Historic Memorial Coliseum as it plays host to Alabama on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET and then Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Both matches will air live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app and tickets are available at UKathletics.com.
