Asia Boone Named to Shooting Guard of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s basketball senior guard Asia Boone has been named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List, it was announced by the Naismith Basketball of Fame in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Tuesday.

Boone, a 5-8 senior shooting guard from San Diego, California, played in all 36 games, and after stepping into the starting lineup midway through the season, tacked on 19 starts in 2025-26.

In her first season under head coach Kenny Brooks and in the Southeastern Conference, she averaged 10.1 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game and 0.8 steals per game, while arguably her most threatening stat came from behind the arc with 2.7 3s per game.

Her 96 3s were the second most in the league and 11th most in the nation at the end of last season, while they also ranked second in program history. Her name is etched in the record book only behind former teammate Amelia Hassett, who finished the season with 99 3s. In fact, Boone broke the school record before Hassett on her 85th 3 on March 5.

The Wildcat made at least three 3s in 22 of 36 games last season, making at least five 3s in four games in 2025-26. She became the first UK player to make at least five 3s in a true road game against an Associated Press Top Five opponent in at least two decades when she knocked down as many to lead Kentucky past No. 5/5 LSU on Jan. 1, 2026.

Boone shot 36. 5 percent from the field, including 36.5 percent from the arc.

Also playing backup point guard for now-WNBA player Tonie Morgan, she had at least three assists in 19 games and made at least two steals in six games in 2025-26.

Players can play their way onto and off the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Watch List at any point in the 2026-27 season.

The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, in its 10th year, honors the top shooting guard in NCAA Division I college women’s basketball. It is named after the Class of 1993 Hall of Famer, the first player, regardless of gender, to be chosen for an All-America Team in four consecutive college seasons.
