Rhyne Howard, Atlanta Dream Reaches WNBA Finals
NEW YORK CITY – Rhyne Howard, University of Kentucky alumna and Atlanta Dream star guard, will play for a championship ring in late October. The Dream will make their first appearance in the WNBA Finals since 2013.
Howard recorded 21 points, four 3s, two rebounds, one steal and one block to help the Dream outlast the Liberty, 85-83, in the third game of the semifinals series, completing the sweep, Friday.
Through five games in the WNBA Playoffs, she has combined for 19.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.4 apg and 2.2 spg.
The Wildcat, who led the league in steals per game (2.3) and ranked second in the league in 3s (134) at the end of the regular season, will play in her first WNBA Finals since becoming the WNBA’s No. 1 draft selection in 2022. She also is the first Kentucky Wildcat to play in the WNBA Finals.
Earlier this season, the All-Star became the league’s record holder for most 3s made in a single season with her 129th 3 scored against Connecticut Sun on Sept. 17. Before that, she became the youngest player in league history to eclipse 400 career 3s, doing so in just 147 games, against New York Liberty on June 11. The versatile guard also became the youngest player in league history to record 2,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocks on June 9.
