Lizzie Carr Named SEC Player of the Week, O’Brien Setter of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Volleyball middle blocker Lizzie Carr was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, the league announced. It is the first-career SEC Player of the Week honor for Carr. Additionally, Kassie O’Brien was voted on as the league’s setter of the week.

Carr had seven blocks against Vanderbilt and five against No. 7 Texas on Sunday, marking 1.71 blocks per set for the week as Kentucky started 2-0 in SEC play. Carr stuffed a total of 12 balls as she helped the Wildcats hold their opponents to just .234 hitting across the two matches with UK outblocking its opponents, 32-18 on the weekend paced by Carr’s threat. Carr also hit .467 for the week with two eight-kill matches for the Wildcats.

O’Brien put together her third 50+ assist match of the season Wednesday night in a win at Vanderbilt to open SEC play and then steered the UK offense to a sweep of No. 7 Texas with 37 assists and doing it without All-American opposite Morgan Gaerte. O’Brien averaged a huge 13.00 assists per set on the week with 91 total assists and seven blocks thrown in, as well. Kentucky as a team hit .444 against Vandy on Wednesday night, its highest percentage for a four-set match in over two years.

Kentucky plays this weekend on the road, facing Auburn on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET and then at No. 7 Florida at 8:30 p.m. ET in Gainesville live on ESPN.
