Wildcats Travel to Columbia for Gans Creek Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats cross country team is set for its first of two trips to Columbia, Mo. this season for the eighth annual Gans Creek Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri, on Friday.

This week, the Wildcats will be competing against fellow SEC programs Arkansas, host Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas, as well as Power Four programs Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois and Kansas.

Last week, Wildcat sophomore Ann Lemirisho was named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week for the first time in her career. In the season opener at the Tennessee Invitational on Sept. 11, Lemirisho crossed the finish line atop the leaderboard with a time of 15:54.7 in the women’s 3-mile race in her first career cross country event in a Kentucky uniform.

In Knoxville, Kentucky placed second in the women’s 3-mile race with 40 total points, with Lemirisho and Doricah Minsari Isoe featuring as the top two finishers. On the men’s side, the Wildcats finished third with 48 points in the 4-mile event, with Collins Kiprop Kipngok and Ed Bird placing second and third with times of 19:14.45 and 19:16.14, respectively at the top of Kentucky’s scorecard.

The Gans Creek Invitational is set to get underway Friday morning at 9 a.m. ET with the women’s gold 6k race, followed by the men’s gold 8k race at 9:45 a.m. ET and the women’s black 6k race at 10:45 a.m. ET.
