Kentucky Women’s Basketball Announces Season Opener Against Morehead State on Nov. 2

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2026-27 University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will play host to Morehead State for its season opener in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Monday, Nov. 2, it was announced by head coach Kenny Brooks on Tuesday.

More nonconference game announcements are expected in the coming days. Ticket information, tip times and the TV designations for the entire schedule also will be released soon.

The Wildcats lead the Eagles, 34-4, in the all-time series, which officially began on Feb. 10, 1975. The Cats also lead in Historic Memorial Coliseum, 24-1, according to home-and-away records going back to 1976.

UK has won the last 17 meetings, a stretch that began with a 106-71 triumph at home on Feb. 20, 1990. The last time the two teams met, UK defeated MSU, 75-59, in last year’s season opener in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 3.

Kentucky’s roster, which includes four returners, four transfers, three freshmen and a 2025 WNBA Draft pick in Ajša Sivka, is ranked ninth in the nation, according to On3’s Preseason Rankings.

All-American and Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Finalist Clara Strack returns for her senior season – and fourth season under Brooks – in 2026-27.

She concluded her junior season with 16.9 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game, 2.53 blocks per game, 1.89 assists per game and 1.22 steals per game, becoming the first player in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history to record these totals: 607 points, 365 rebounds, 91 blocks, 68 assists, 44 steals and 25 3s in one season.

Brooks also retained shooting star Asia Boone, who will return for her senior season in 2026-27. Amelia Hassett ultimately broke the individual single-season school record in 3FGM (99) last season, but Boone ended the season with 96 3FGM, which is not only the second-most in program history, but the second-most by an SEC player last season based on final statistics.

Kentucky’s roster also boasts the No. 6 freshman class, ranked by ESPN, including a trio of McDonald’s All-Americans in Maddyn Greenway, Savvy Swords and Emily McDonald. It also boasts the No. 6 transfer class, ranked by On3, which features 6-4 junior forward Me’Arah O’Neal (Florida), 6-2 redshirt junior forward Ayanna Patterson (UConn), 5-10 senior guard Diana Collins (Alabama) and 5-4 junior guard Jemma Amoore (IU-Indianapolis).
