“We’re excited to welcome Tonie to the Sparks organization,” said Sparks Assistant General Manager Zach Knowlton. “She is a dynamic playmaker who has consistently demonstrated the ability to elevate those around her. Her competitiveness, court vision and feel for the game make her an excellent addition to our development program, and we look forward to helping her continue to grow.”
WNBA player development contracts are a roster designation introduced in this year’s collective bargaining agreement. Teams can carry up to two of these players and they must have three or fewer years of service in the league.
Morgan was selected in the third round – the 32nd overall pick – to the Chicago Sky in the 2026 WNBA Draft before being waived on May 3. Since then, she has been playing in the 3×3 Basketball Association.
The Wildcat concluded last season as one of just two players in the nation averaging at least 13.0 points per game and 7.0 assists per game. She concluded the season ranked first in the nation in total assists (286) and second in assists per game (7.94). Her 286 assists also finished fourth on the Southeastern Conference’s all-time, top-10 list and broke the single-season school record, while her 7.94 apg also broke the single-season school record.
The All-SEC Second Team selection and Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year finalist helped the program to its first Sweet 16 in over a decade. Beyond her exceptional ability to create for others and herself, she drew national headlines for her buzzer-beating 3 to take down No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge on New Year’s Day.
