Wildcats Draw at Old Dominion 1-1 in Regular Season Finale

NORFOLK, Va. – The Kentucky Wildcats (10-2-4, 7-1-1 SBC) earned their first draw in Sun Belt Conference play tonight in Norfolk, Va. in a 1-1 result against the Old Dominion Monarchs (5-5-7, 1-3-5 SBC) on Tuesday night in the 2025 regular season finale.

The Wildcats clinched the SBC Regular Season Title in the 1-0 win over Georgia State last week, and have now, with the draw against the Monarchs, solidified their place in the conference tournament starting on Sunday, Nov. 9.

Kentucky opened the match with the game’s first scoring opportunity in the seventh minute from reigning SBC Offensive Player of the Week Kevin Larsson with a shot, forcing Old Dominion goalkeeper Michael Statham to keep the score level at 0-0 in the early going.

Larsson would have another shot on goal in the 19th minute in a breakaway opportunity for the Wildcats but was once again kept out by Statham moving to his left for his second save of the night.

Larsson would finally end up on the scoresheet in the 29th minute on the Wildcats’ third scoring chance of the game, assisting Isaiah Chisolm on his sixth goal of the season, coming off an incredible throw ball and a right-footed shot into the back of the net, to give Kentucky a 1-0 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half. The Cats would maintain their one-goal advantage heading into the halftime break in Norfolk.

Following the opening of the second half, and a lengthy spell of possession for the home side, the Monarchs would find their equalizer in the 75th minute with a goal from leading goalscorer Lewis Rourke, his seventh of the season, to level the scoreline at 1-1 with 15 minutes to play.

The final 15 minutes of the match would yield a goal for either side, but would see two Monarchs sent off, first Micah Wayland drawing his second yellow card of the match in the 88th minute and Out Bisong drawing a straight red card in the 90th minute. As the final whistle blew after full-time in Norfolk, the final score would result in the Cats’ first draw in the conference play this season.

The Kentucky Wildcats will begin postseason play with the start of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Tournament this Sunday, Nov. 9, against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in Lexington at The Bell at 3 p.m. ET.
