Big Blue Preview: No. 24/20 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to Morehead State for Season Opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 24/20 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play host to Morehead State for both programs’ season openers on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Historic Memorial Coliseum.

Doors open to fans one hour prior to tip.

Big Blue Nation will receive a vinyl record magnet at the entrance, while supplies last, to celebrate the program’s 12 school records snapped last season.

Fans can still purchase single-game tickets to the season opener and all 15 of the program’s remaining home games this season. To shop single-game tickets, click here, and for a full list of the program’s nonconference promotional lineup, click here.

Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network in 2025-26, his ninth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His entire call will be carried on 98.5 FM ICONS in Lexington, while 630 AM WLAP will pick up the game beginning at 7 p.m. ET. It will also be carried on 790 AM WKRD in Louisville and SiriusXM Channel 383 or through the SiriusXM App.

Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network+, with Noah Frary and Christi Thomas on the broadcast.

UK Athletics recommends nine parking locations for fans attending games this season, including two parking locations with shuttle transportation (The Cornerstone Garage, High Street Lot). The shuttle at those parking locations starts 90 minutes prior to tip off and breaks at the end of the first quarter. It resumes at the start of the third quarter and runs one-hour post-game.

The Wildcats – who were picked to finish eighth in the Southeastern Conference by media and coaches – will sport a decorated roster in 2025-26, including four players with preseason accolades in junior center Clara Strack, senior forward Teonni Key, graduate guard Jordan Obi and senior guard Tonie Morgan.

Kenny Brooks returned 46.7% of scoring and 70.85% of rebounding in the starting frontcourt alone – Strack, Key and Amelia Hassett – which also is a group that led the nation in blocked shots last season (7.0 bpg). But Brooks also bolstered his roster with four All-Conference veteran guards, including three from the transfer portal in Morgan, Asia Boone and Josie Gilvin and one coming off injury in Obi. Kaelyn Carroll, McDonald’s All-American 6-3 wing, also is a highly touted freshman addition to the team in 2025-26.

Kentucky leads Morehead State in the all-time series, 33-4, which officially began in 1975. The Wildcats have won 16 straight, including the last eight straight at home. The Wildcats won the last meeting in the series, 73-48, at home on Nov. 11, 2022.

Kentucky’s largest margin of victory over Morehead State is 68 points (112-57) in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 18, 2015.

Monday’s game is the home and season opener for Kentucky. UK is 43-8 all-time in season openers, and it has won 16 in a row. UK also is 47-4 all-time in home openers, and it also has won 16 in a row.

Last season, Kentucky defeated USC Upstate in its season opener, 98-43, in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 4, 2024. It marked UK’s second largest margin of victory in a season opener (55 points), with the record going to Kentucky’s triumph over Kentucky State, 121-44, in 1989-90. It also marked a UK head coach’s largest margin of victory in their debut.
