Jordan Obi Chosen to Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Preseason Top 20 Watch List

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s basketball student-athlete Jordan Obi has been selected to the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Preseason Top 20 Watch List, it was announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Obi, a Hartford, Connecticut, native, sat out last season with an Achilles rupture. She spent the previous four seasons at Penn from 2021-24. In 83 games there, she averaged 13.7 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, 1.0 blocks per game and 0.9 steals per game.

In just three seasons of action at Penn – Ivy League winter sports were canceled her freshman season because of the coronavirus outbreak – she combined for 1,142 points, 88 3-pointers, 631 rebounds, 165 assists, 85 blocks and 72 steals. She was the 25th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points and became the seventh fastest to do so in just 74 games.

Obi is coming off her most productive season yet, so much so the Ivy League named her to its first team for the first time in her college career. As a senior in 2023-24, she averaged 14.7 points per game and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game, adding 65 assists and a team-high 38 blocks. She shot 43.3 percent from the field (149-344), 38.6 percent from the arc (34-88) and 82.7 percent from the line (81-98).

She scored in double digits in 22 of her 28 games last season, with six of those being double-double games. In a victory at Merrimack on Dec. 8, she played 40 minutes and recorded a career-high 30 points on 11-of-16 from the field. She added 13 rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block in that game.

Obi also was a two-time All-Ivy Second Team selection as a sophomore and junior, averaging 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in those two seasons.

No. 24/20 Kentucky will tip off their season in less than a week against Morehead State on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Historic Memorial Coliseum. To celebrate the season opener and its 12 school records snapped last season, the program will be giving out vinyl record magnets at the entrance, while supplies last.

There are fewer than 25 reserved season tickets remaining and a limited number of general-admission season tickets available for purchase. Season tickets offer a considerable discount as opposed to single-game tickets, while season-ticket holders also will have priority access to postseason events if the Kentucky Wildcats were selected as a host site. Fans interested in season tickets can still place a $0 deposit through their UK Athletics Account.

Big Blue Nation also can purchase single-game tickets for the entire season, while fans also can view the nonconference game promotional lineup here.
