Tonie Morgan Selected to Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Preseason Top 20 Watch List
LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s basketball point guard Tonie Morgan has been selected to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Preseason Top 20 Watch List, it was announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday.
Morgan, a 5-9 senior guard from Tallahassee, Florida, played the last three seasons at Georgia Tech. During her time as a Yellow Jacket, she played 96 games and made 95 starts, combining for 1,261 points, 543 rebounds, 468 assists and 116 steals, along the way becoming a three-time, all-conference team talent.
Her 4.9 career assists per game were ranked 12th among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball players at the conclusion of 2024-25, while she was one of three non-seniors in that top 12.
Morgan is coming off her junior season in Atlanta, where she averaged 13.7 points per game, shot 48.9 percent from the field, grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game, dished out 5.6 assists per game and forced 1.0 steals per game. For her efforts, she was named to the 2024-25 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team for the second time in her college career.
Her 5.6 assists per game last season were ranked 19th in the nation at the conclusion of 2024-25.
Morgan guided Georgia Tech to a 22-11 record last season, which included three Associated Press Top 25 triumphs. She earned career highs in numerous categories on the year, including 31 points and 12 field goals at Stanford on March 2 and 14 assists against Clemson on Jan. 19. In that same game against the Tigers, she earned her first triple-double – 14 assists, 12 points, 12 rebounds – becoming the first Yellow Jacket to record a triple-double since 2002.
Prior to last season, Morgan averaged 15.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.2 apg and 1.6 spg as a sophomore to become a 2023-24 All-ACC Second Teamer and averaged 9.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 3.8 apg as a freshman to be named to the 2022-23 ACC All-Freshman Team.
Morgan attended Florida State University Schools prior to her college career, playing six varsity seasons at Florida High. She was tabbed the 24th-ranked prospect out of high school by ESPN Hoopgurlz.
No. 24/20 Kentucky will tip off their season a week from today against Morehead State on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Historic Memorial Coliseum.
