Kassie O’Brien Named SEC’s Freshman of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman setter Kassie O’Brien of the Kentucky Volleyball team won her third Southeastern Conference weekly award in as many weeks Monday afternoon as she was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week.
O’Brien steered the Kentucky offense to a .393 hitting percentage with 11.33 assists per set in a 34-assist performance in her first SEC road start Friday night as UK beat Ole Miss, 3-0. O’Brien had 34 assists alongside a service ace and two digs and three blocks, with her three blocks coming as a new SEC career high for the Katy, Texas native. Friday night marked O’Brien’s fifth-straight match in the season with 30-plus assists.
Kentucky, who is slotted No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association top-25 poll released Monday, will have a top-10 showdown at No. 9 Texas A&M on Wednesday night at Reed Arena in College Station. The match will be televised on SEC Network and the ESPN app with Alex Loeb and Shelby Coppedge on the call from Bryan-College Station.
