Hekkonen, Brown in the Top Five, Kentucky Occupies Third Place at Folds of Honor Collegiate

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Anastasia Hekkonen remains in the hunt tied for first place, while Cathryn Brown moved into the top five, after the second round at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Michigan, on Tuesday.

The Wildcats went 8-over as a team in the second round, assembling a 15-over through 36 holes. They moved into solo third place ahead of the final round, seven shots behind Texas A&M in second place and 10 shots behind Baylor in first place.

North Carolina (+16), Kansas (+17), Michigan State (+18) and Florida State (+18) are just on the heels of the top three.

The Wildcats will tee off in the final round Wednesday beginning at 8:15 a.m. ET off No. 1.

Big Blue Nation may be able to catch the team on Golf Channel, with live coverage scheduled tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. ET – 2:30 p.m. ET and 4:30 p.m. ET – 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans also can follow along with live scoring on Scoreboard powered by Clippd.

While Brown, a junior from Eddyville, Kentucky, put up the team’s best score in the second round, Hekkonen not only leads the lineup but also shares the lead at the tournament.

Hekkonen began the day with five straight pars, followed by a birdie on the par-5 No. 6, before recording two more pars to improve her streak to 26 straight holes without a bogey. That is until she recorded her lone bogey on the par-4 No. 9. On the back nine, she was consistent as ever, recording nine straight pars to get out of the second round on an even-par 72.

The sophomore, who entered the day as the lone leader, now shares the top spot with Silje Ohma of Baylor, who went 7-under in the second round.

The next closest contender to Hekkonen and Ohma is five shots back.

Brown is just behind that, six shots back on an even-par 144 and tied for fourth place.

In fact, only five players are even-par or better through 36 holes, and two of those wear Blue and White.

Brown had a bumpy front nine, reporting six pars and three bogeys. However, she capitalized after the turn, recording five pars and four birdies on hole Nos. 10, 13, 16 and 18 to turn in a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday.

Brown, C.A. Carter and Raleygh Simpson all improved from the first round to the second round.

Carter, a sophomore from Lexington, Kentucky, shed five strokes from Monday (+9) to Tuesday (+4). She put together one double, four bogeys and two birdies on the par-5 No. 6 and the par-4 No. 8. For the tournament, Carter has a 157 (+13) and in a tie for 48th place. Simpson also has a 157 (+13) and in a tie for 48th place. Simpson, a sophomore from Kerrville, Texas, went 5-over on Tuesday.

Karlie Campbell went just 6-over in the second round. Despite her score being dropped Tuesday, she is still third in the lineup on a 10-over through 36 holes and tied for 41st place.
