
Ed Bird to Represent Great Britain at European Athletics U23 Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Wildcat distance runner Ed Bird, a native of Dorchester, England, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships at the Fana Stadion in Bergen, Norway on July 17-20.
On the world stage, Bird is most recently coming off a bronze medal performance, his first career global medal, at the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru just last summer, finishing with a time of 8:21.00 in the 3000m event.
A squad of 44 athletes has been selected to represent Great Britain at this year’s European Championships in Norway. Bird will feature alongside fellow Brits Will Barnicoat and James Dargan in the men’s 5000m event.
During the 2025 season for the Wildcats, Bird posted four personal-best times across the indoor and outdoor seasons, including a school record mark in the outdoor 5000m (13:39.28) and the indoor 3000m (7:51.38). The Wildcat sophomore also posted a personal-best mark at the Jim Green Invitational in the men’s 1500m final with a time of 3:42.49.
The 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships are set to begin on Thursday, July 17. The event schedule and the start time for the 5000m event have yet to be announced.
