Four Wildcats Named WGCA All-American Scholars
LEXINGTON, Ky. – One week after all seven University of Kentucky women’s golfers were named to the Southeastern Conference academic honor roll, four were labeled Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, it was announced by the association this week.
Wildcats Cathryn Brown, Karlie Campbell, Anastasia Hekkonen and Brooke Oberparleiter received recognition. It is Brown’s and Oberparleiter’s second straight appearance on the esteemed list, while it is Campbell’s and Hekkonen’s first.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, demonstrating the players’ high-level of academic achievements. To be selected, a student-athlete must:
- Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher
- Be an amateur and on the team’s roster through the conclusion of the team’s season
- Have played in 50% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team’s conference championship
The UK women’s golf team had a record year in the classroom, not only leading all 23 teams in the athletic department in the fall (3.92 GPA) and the spring (3.879 GPA) but also setting a new department record with its 3.92.
Meanwhile, the team earned a 291.3 stroke average last season, the fifth-best stroke average in program history. The young lineup collected two finishes inside the top five, including second place at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational last September and third place at the Paradise Invitational in February.
Moreover, two of the WGCA All-American Scholars collected SEC Weekly Honors during the spring season, including Campbell (SEC Freshman of the Week) and Brown (SEC Golfer of the Week).
All four student-athletes – junior Brown (73.3 s/avg), sophomore Campbell (73.9 s/avg), sophomore Hekkonen (74.3 s/avg) and junior Oberparleiter (76.0 s/avg) – will return for the upcoming season in 2025-26.
